How we meet:
In-Person: My office is located at 5 Market Street, Suite 2B in downtown Portsmouth, NH — a private space where you can actually exhale for an hour.
Telehealth: Prefer to meet from home or the office? Telehealth sessions are available for clients located in New Hampshire. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection.
What to expect:
As things progress, we'll adjust the frequency based on what's most useful for you.
Getting started is straightforward: reach out, we'll schedule a brief consultation call to make sure we're a good fit, and go from there.
Who should be there:
For children younger than 12, I prefer to meet with their parents/guardians first to gain a sense of the dynamics that bring their child into therapy. This allows us to have an honest discussion about symptoms, difficulties, and goals for treatment. Additionally, you'll get a sense of my style, before your child meets me.
Adolescents should attend with their parent/guardian for the first appointment. We will discuss the role of parents in therapy including privacy, confidentiality and acceptable disclosure.
Adults may bring a family member or friend to their first appointment, but you'll need to sign a release of information for that person to stay. All adults are required to sign a release with permission to contact a friend or family member in the event of an emergency.
-
How long are sessions? Individual therapy sessions are 55 minutes. That's pretty standard across the field — enough time to actually get somewhere, without giving up your entire day.
-
How often will we meet? Most clients start with weekly sessions. Consistency early on tends to produce better results, and it helps us build momentum. As things shift and you're feeling more grounded, we can move to biweekly or as-needed.
-
Do you accept insurance? I'm in-network with Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Martin's Point and Lyra. I can provide super bills for reimbursement if you are out-of-network. If you have other insurance, you may be eligible for out of network benefits. Contact your insurance company to be sure.
What to Expect in Therapy
-
What does the first appointment look like? The first session is really about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, a bit of your history, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. You'll have a chance to ask me questions too. It's a conversation, not an intake interview — though there is a little paperwork involved upfront.
-
What is your cancellation policy? I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Life happens, and I get that — but late cancellations and no-shows affect both of us, so I do have a fee for those (with some exceptions for certain circumstances).
-
Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions? No. Therapy isn't a contract. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months; others find it useful to continue longer-term. We'll check in regularly on how things are going and whether the work still makes sense for where you are.
-
Is everything I say confidential? Yes, with a few narrow legal exceptions — situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others, or certain legal requirements. I'll walk you through all of this in our first session so you know exactly where the boundaries are. The short version: what you say in session stays in session.
